/ Newsletter The world’s first artificial intelligence-powered scientific satellite, named after The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and designed for urban sustainability, was successfully launched on 12 February. Our hearty congratulations!
This is the first Earth observation satellite directly involving CUHK in its design, research, and application, as well as the first time that DeepSeek large language model has been deployed to space. The satellite is expected to provide detailed environmental monitoring and enable near real-time data analysis and information extraction, aiding in disaster prevention, smart city development, and regional sustainable growth.
Head of Chung Chi College and Director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Professor Kwan Mei Po, is the Chief Scientist of the CUHK Satellite Project, while another Chung Chi teacher, Professor Ma Peifeng from the Department of Geography and Resource Management, is the Chief Engineer of the project.
