Since its establishment in 1980, the Lions Pavilion beside Lake Ad Excellentiam has been a cherished landmark of Chung Chi College and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Donated by the Lions Club of Kowloon Central in the late 1970s, it has been a popular spot for enjoying the lakeside scenery, taking graduation photos and gathering with friends for over four decades, preserving special memories for generations of students, staff and alumni.

To preserve this iconic structure, Chung Chi College started refurbishment works in July 2026, including repainting and essential maintenance. The project has now been successfully completed, ensuring that the Pavilion will continue to provide a welcoming gathering space for students, staff, alumni and visitors.

The College is deeply grateful to Lions Clubs International District 303 Hong Kong & Macao, China (2026-2027) for its generous sponsorship of the project. The Lions Pavilion will continue to stand proudly by Lake Ad Excellentiam, witnessing the shared memories of the Chung Chi community and reflecting the enduring friendship between the College and the Lions community for generations to come.

The sculpture 众 (pronounced as “Chung”, meaning “a group of persons,” also the first character in the Chinese name of Chung Chi Tang), located beside Chung Chi Tang and the Pommerenke Student Centre, was erected in 2006 to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Chung Chi College. It was the College’s second outdoor sculpture.

Comprising three individual Chinese character 人 (“a person”) in various heights, the sculpture forms the character 众, symbolising different generations of Chung Chi members who can stand independently while remaining united in purpose. The sculpture was designed by Dr. Yung Kung Hing (1959/Chemistry), and was made possible through the support of Mr. Chan Chi Kin (1966/Physics), Mr. Lo Foo Cheung (1970/Geography), and Mr. Zen Wei Pao (1971/Physics).

In September 2025, one of the figures was severely damaged by a fallen tree during a super typhoon and required recasting. Through the efforts of Mr. Wong Wai Ho (1971/Accounting and Finance) in liaising with Road King Infrastructure Limited, and the generous support of this listed company founded by Mr. Zen Wei Pao, one of the sculpture's original donors, the restored figure was reinstalled in August 2026. The restoration of this meaningful landmark not only preserves the College’s heritage but also reflects the enduring spirit of unity and mutual support among the Chung Chi community.
