GECC3230 Service-Learning Programme (Non-Local) Philippines Community Service-Learning Programme

Objectives

  • To cultivate a sense of community service in Chung Chi students.
  • To provide students with opportunities to get in touch with different segments of society, broadening their horizons, and strengthening their critical thinking on social issues; and
  • To provide students with opportunities to further develop personal growth and enhance social skills through reflective journals, evaluation meetings, and discussions in seminars.

 

Eligibility

Students in 2026/27:

  • In 2nd year of attendance or above (Students with a normative study period of 3 years or more)
  • No constraints on study year (for students with a normative study period of 2 years, applicable to those admitted in 2023/24 and before)

Themes of Service-Learning

  • To understand the Philippines in multiple aspects: history, culture, economy, education, environment, and ethnicity.
  • To foster cross-cultural understanding and global citizenship among students with a hands-on learning experience in an Asian context. 
  • To enable students to contribute to community development through service activities and enhance their personal and professional growth through reflection and self-assessment.

Fee and Deposit

  • HKD$4,900 (excluding flight ticket). Participants can be reimbursed for 50% of airfare, subject to submission of a valid receipt and boarding pass (maximum HK$2,500).
  • In response to Silliman University (SU) requirements, participants must complete relevant medical examinations to receive a subsidy of half the price (subject to a maximum of HK$530), provided they present a valid original receipt. Participants are required to submit the medical report and SU medical examination form by 17 April (Friday).
  • A deposit of HKD$3,000 is refundable upon completion of the programme; in case of withdrawal from the programme, the deposit will not be refunded.
