Sharing Session of Professor Kwan Mei-Po, Candidate for the Next Head of Chung Chi College Chung Chi College

The Committee for the Selection of Head of Chung Chi College was established several months ago, chaired by Professor Rocky Tuan (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. Norman Chan (Chairman of the College Board of Trustees), and six College Fellows. After multiple rounds of selection procedures, including three consultation sessions, nomination collection, meetings with potential candidates, and deliberations by the Selection Committee, the Committee has resolved to recommend Professor Kwan Mei-Po, Chung Chi alumna, as the candidate for appointment as the next College Head, for the College Board of Trustees’ and University Council’s consideration and approval.


Professor Kwan Mei-Po (1985/Chung Chi/Geography) is an internationally acclaimed Geographer with a passion for conducting innovative research that benefits society and enhances people’s livelihoods. After earning her Bachelor’s degree from CUHK, she pursued her Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1989, and her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1994. She then developed her teaching and research career in renowned universities, including The Ohio State University and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since 2019, she has been serving as Choh-Ming Li Professor of Geography and Resource Management and Director of the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science at CUHK. Professor Kwan has gained immense respect of the international geography and social science communities, receiving various prestigious honours and awards, including the Distinguished Scholarship Honors from the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in 2011, the AAG Wilbanks Prize for Transformational Research in Geography in 2021, and the James R. Anderson Medal of Honor in Applied Geography from the AAG Applied Geography Specialty Group in 2022. Her dedication to alma mater, inspiring students as well as cultivating talents are equally noteworthy.


To provide an opportunity for College members to learn more about Professor Kwan’s vision for Chung Chi College, the Selection Committee has arranged a sharing session of Professor Kwan to meet stakeholders. The session will take place on 2 June (Fri), 2023 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Activity Room LG4, Kunkle Student Centre.
